Terms of Service
Last updated:
These terms govern your use of Mentora, including usementora.com and the Mentora app (together, the “Service”). The Service is provided by [TO BE DEFINED: legal entity name] (“Mentora,” “we,” or “us”).
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Mentora. If you use Mentora for a school or another organization, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
Who can use Mentora
- Teachers must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where they live if that is higher.
- Students must be at least 13 years old. Mentora is not for children under 13, and we delete the account of any user we learn is under 13. If you are under 18, please review these terms with a parent or guardian.
Your account
You sign in to Mentora with your Google account, and each account belongs to one person. When you set up your account you choose whether you are a teacher or a student; if you were invited to a classroom, the invitation decides. Keep the information in your account accurate, keep your Google account secure, and tell us at support@usementora.com if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
Teachers’ responsibilities
If you use Mentora as a teacher:
- You decide which students to invite and what to assess.
- You must have the authority to use Mentora with your students and to share their information with us, including any permission your school requires and any consent needed under the law or your school’s policies, such as consent from parents.
- You are responsible for the content you create, upload, or assign, and you must have the right to use it with your students.
- You use student information only for educational purposes, and in line with the laws and school policies that apply to you.
- You review AI-generated questions before you publish them, and you remain responsible for your students’ final grades (see AI features).
Students
Your teacher runs the classroom: they decide which exams you take, when they open and close, and when you see your results. Your teacher can see your answers, scores, and feedback, and can change your grades. Follow your teacher’s instructions when you use Mentora.
Acceptable use
When you use Mentora, you agree not to:
- break the law or violate anyone else’s rights, including privacy and intellectual property rights;
- upload or share content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or harmful to minors;
- share other people’s personal information without the authority to do so;
- use invitations or any other feature to send spam;
- try to access accounts or data that aren’t yours, or probe, scan, or get around our security or plan limits;
- disrupt the Service, overload it, or access it with bots or scrapers, except through the features we provide;
- copy, sell, or resell the Service, or give access to people outside your plan;
- use the Service to build a competing product or to train AI models;
- pretend to be someone else.
AI features
Mentora uses AI to suggest topics, write questions and rubrics, grade written answers against the teacher’s rubric, write feedback for students, and write reports for teachers. These features are provided by OpenAI, as described in our Privacy Policy.
AI can be wrong. Generated questions, answer keys, grades, feedback, and reports can be inaccurate or incomplete. Grades the AI is unsure about are held for the teacher’s review, but any grade can be wrong. Teachers should review AI-generated content before using it, can change any grade, and remain responsible for final grades. Mentora supports a teacher’s judgment; it does not replace it.
Plans, free trial, and billing
Students are always free
Students never pay to use Mentora.
Free trial
Every new teacher account starts with a 7-day free trial when you finish setting it up. No payment card is needed, and each account gets one trial. When the trial ends, your workspace becomes read-only: you can still see your classrooms, exams, and results, but you can’t create or change anything until you subscribe.
The teacher plan
The teacher plan costs US$19 per month or US$182 per year. Each plan has usage limits, such as the number of classrooms, students per classroom, and AI-drafted and AI-graded work per month, shown on our pricing page and in the app. When you subscribe, you are charged right away for the first billing period, and your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
Payments through Dodo Payments
Payments are processed by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record for your purchase. That means Dodo Payments sells you the subscription on our behalf, takes your payment, issues receipts, and handles applicable sales taxes. Dodo Payments’ own terms also apply to your purchase.
Canceling
You can cancel your subscription at any time from the app. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for; after that, your workspace becomes read-only. Deleting your account also cancels an active subscription.
Failed payments, refunds, and price changes
If a payment fails, we’ll let you know by email; if it isn’t resolved, your workspace becomes read-only. Refunds: [TO BE DEFINED: refund policy]. If we change our prices, we’ll tell you before the change applies, and it will take effect at your next renewal.
Your content
- Teachers own their content: the exams, questions, rubrics, and materials they create or upload, including what they create with Mentora’s AI features, to the extent the law allows.
- Students own their answers.
You give Mentora a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, display, and transmit your content only as needed to operate, secure, and provide the Service to you and to the people you use it with. For example, your students see the exams you publish, and your teacher sees your answers. We don’t use your content for anything else, such as advertising or training AI models. The license ends when your content is deleted.
Mentora itself (the software, design, and brand) belongs to us. These terms give you the right to use the Service, not ownership of it. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.
Other services
Mentora relies on services from other companies, such as Google for sign-in and Dodo Payments for payments. Their own terms apply to your use of their services, and we are not responsible for them.
Ending your use of Mentora
You can stop using Mentora at any time, and you can delete your account from your Profile page. Deletion is immediate and permanent, as described in our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other users or the Service at risk, or when the law requires it. When it’s reasonable, we’ll tell you first and explain why. If we ever stop offering Mentora, we’ll give you reasonable notice so you can ask us for a copy of your information.
The sections on your content, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and disputes continue to apply after your account ends.
Disclaimers
Mentora is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that AI-generated content or grades will be accurate.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Mentora will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, or data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or US$100. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Indemnity
If you use Mentora as a teacher, you agree to defend and compensate Mentora for claims and costs that arise from the content you upload or assign, or from using Mentora with students without the authority or consent required.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by [TO BE DEFINED: governing law]. Any dispute relating to these terms or the Service will be resolved in [TO BE DEFINED: venue and dispute-resolution process]. Before filing a claim, please contact us at support@usementora.com so we can try to resolve it informally.
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we’ll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell account holders by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Mentora after the change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
General
These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Mentora about the Service. If a part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a part of these terms right away doesn’t mean we give up the right to do so later. You may not transfer these terms to someone else without our permission; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
